ACES Image Database
ACES Marcom uses a photo management program called Canto to organize all of our photographs, including professional photo sessions and study abroad photos. Anyone in the College of ACES is able to request access to create a Canto account, which means you can download the photos and use them in your marketing materials or presentations.
Request Canto access:
- Go to illinoisaces.canto.com
- Click “Access Request” text under the orange Login button. You must enter the captcha text into a box that's not very noticeable. Put your cursor under "Try another text” and you should be able to find the box.
- Marcom will approve your request within 1-2 days, and you will be able to access the database.
University Image & Video Databases
- The image database provides consistent, quality images that University of Illinois faculty and staff can use for free. Request access to the university image database.
- High-quality stock footage of the campus is available to campus faculty and staff for instructional purposes and in promotional videos. Request access to the university video database.
Hiring a Photographer
If you want to use images from your event in future print or web materials, you might consider hiring a photographer. Although hiring a photographer is more expensive than using stock photography, you will have greater control over the art and you’ll be able to ensure that the faculty members, students and staff in your pictures are actually from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
The Office of Business and Financial Services (OBFS) maintains policies and procedures for contracting with vendors for services that you should review before contracting with a non-university photographer. Learn more from Public Affairs.
Release Form
If you are planning to use an individual’s image or likeness in media such as photographs, video, etc., you should request written permission to do so. Releases also should be completed and signed by any talent working with companies or individuals performing photography, video, or audiotape on university premises.
